Additional info

  • Steel rings are rolled on a plate rolling machine. The shape is already formed; however, the longitudinal closing seam has not yet been welded. The rings are cylindrical or slightly conical. Using a double C-hook, the rings are transferred to the clamping table.

As preparation, the columns are set in an inclined position, with the clamping cylinders at the top. The movable head is positioned sufficiently outward. The ring is inserted between the columns and positioned above the support points of the fixed head. The movable head is then moved inward so that the ring is positioned above the support points of the movable head. The ring is placed on the support points, and the clamping cylinders move down without applying clamping force yet. The double C-hook is removed and can be used for the next cycle.

The four positioning cylinders adjust the ring to the optimal position. The four free edges are then clamped using the clamping cylinders and brought together using the closing cylinders.
Column adjustment: the basic principle is to set the columns in a mid-range position, taking into account the visible opening of the roll. In case of a large opening (Fig. 1), the columns should be opened further. In case of significant overlap (Fig. 2), the columns should be positioned vertically.

The clamping table then remains in position while the welding crane performs the longitudinal seam welding. Preheating may be required if necessary.

Once the welding crane returns to its initial position, the flux is removed and the weld is cleaned. The double C-hook is then reinserted into the ring. The clamping cylinders are retracted, allowing the ring to be lifted by the hook. The movable head is then moved outward, and the ring is transported to the next workstation.

Start-up and reset of the complete machine or individual hydraulic groups are performed from the main control cabinet mounted on the wall behind the fixed head.
The clamping table is operated from two control stations: one on the movable head and one on the fixed head. Each station is equipped with two control consoles used to extend or retract the three cylinders of the column to which the console is attached. One of the consoles on the movable head is additionally equipped with control levers for the brake caliper and the travel motor.
Each control console and the main cabinet are equipped with an emergency stop.
